What is the Chronic Back Pain Self Management Program?

Many people experience back pain at some point in their lives. There are several reasons why you might be experiencing back pain, simple things like carrying your kids, working in the yard, sometimes the age, or loving sports like kayak, or even an accident. 

If you have back pain or sciatica or someone in your family and decide to take this course to find solutions to pain, you are on the right pathway because is impossible for a person to stop reducing pain in ignorance. The purpose of this course is to give you additional knowledge to reduce or stop your back pain or sciatica pain. If you are willing to open ideas, if you are open to learning, and gain more knowledge, understand the knowledge and apply it, you will have a huge advantage in finding solutions to your problem.

Who can participate in the Chronic Back Pain Self Management Program?

People with chronic back pain, family members, friends and/or caregivers are welcome to participate. 

How this program works?

One day of the week for four weeks, participants will join an online meeting from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm (Central time - Winnipeg), during this time a health educator and manual osteopath will present and discuss the topics of the self-management program, participant interaction, action-planning, and open questions period.  An electronic handbook will be sent by email.

The Chronic Back Pain program is a 4 weeks course that helps persons suffering back pain. This course provides information, techniques, skills, and behaviours that can help the participants live well managing their symptoms and realize their daily activities.This course includes osteopathic therapies to increase the mobility of joints, relieve muscle tension, and relieve pain. Self-management doesn’t replace the advice of a health professional.

  • Understanding my back and my back pain.

  • Medications use and not abuse.

  • Osteopathic Techniques for back pain.

  • Stretching, flexibility and endurance exercises.

  • Managing depression, frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation.

  • Family, friends, and health professionals. Do you understand me?

  • Healthy eating habits.

  • Breathing and Relaxation techniques.

  • Good choices about my health and using my health care system.

  • Is this new treatment right for me?

  • How to plan and update my health program.
